Saga offers some good deals but if you go with something such as their Saver plan, a consumer must keep in mind that type of plan is only for 12 months, so if complications arise later related to a particular injury, they may not be covered. they are not the only company that has limits on certain sections of coverage, so be aware of that while comparing pet insurance plans.

Here are some of their highlights:

  • 3 levels of coverage: Saver, Essential, and Super.
  • Policies start as low as £3.70 per month for cats.
  • As low as £8.97 per month for dogs.
  • Pays up to £5,000 per year towards veterinary coverage (on Super plan).
  • Third party liability up to £2 million (all plans).

Below are examples from some of their policies:

Veterinary fees – Saver: Saver covers the following: We will pay for the cost of treatment your pet has received for a period of 12 months starting from the date during the period of insurance when an injury or illness is first treated by a vet, up to the amount stated on page 24. The limit applies individually to each pet specified in your Schedule and the number of claims that you can make is unlimited during the policy year in respect of fees incurred for the attendance and treatment by a vet following an accident, illness or disease, including hospitalisation and essential home visits, sustained or contracted and notified during the period of insurance. In respect of veterinary fees, the period of 12 months or the maximum benefit will always start or be calculated from the date in the policy year an illness or injury is first treated, or an illness with the same diagnosis or clinical signs as the illness or clinical signs that you have claimed the cost of treatment for was first treated. If a number of illnesses, injuries or clinical signs are:• diagnosed as one illness or injury; or• caused by, relate to or result from another illness, injury or clinical signs;one period of 12 months or one maximum benefit will apply to the treatment received for all the illnesses, injuries or clinical signs.

Super Cover only – fees for alternative medicine or complementary treatment which your vet recommends and has been approved by us. This includes a limited number of sessions of hydrotherapy provided by hydrotherapy pool operators who are members of CHA (Canine Hydrotherapy Association), restricted to a period of 90 days from the date of the first session. The maximum period of days for hydrotherapy applies to each unrelated condition treated. However it does not re-apply to each period of insurance.
